About

BookPeople welcomes Joe Rothenberg in conversation with Phil Machi for Ask the Cartoonist: A Joetatochips Live Event. Please welcome Joe Rothenberg and Phil Machi to celebrate You Call Yourself a Dragon?! This event is free and open to the public. The author will be signing and personalizing copies of the book after the speaking portion of the event. Guidelines: About the book: In Joe Rothenberg’s first hilarious graphic novel, a ferocious dragon turns out to be no match for a little princess. When fiesty Princess Pildred is whisked away by the obnoxious Fizzles the Dragon, her only hope of escape is the delusional knight Sir Bastion — or is it? Her natural curiosity may be the key to making an unlikely ally. Kids and adults alike will discover that a little bit of compassion — even for an obnoxious dragon — can go a long way. In addition to the main story, enjoy laugh-out-loud Mini-Adventures from around Castle Winkeldorf, a special Epilogue, and bonus goodies like a map of the kingdom and how-to-draw pages. About the author: Joe Rothenberg is an Austin-based award-winning animator, illustrator, author, and cartoonist behind Castle Winkeldorf, Joetatochips, and Tall Problems. A diehard cartoon fan since childhood, his debut book The Forgotten Ones: Prehistoric Creatures You Can’t Prove Didn’t Exist appeared in 2025, followed by his first graphic novel You Call Yourself a Dragon?! in early 2026. His comics are silly, smart, and full of laughs for all ages. He is a doting husband and proud father of two living in central Texas. Visit Joe online at joetatochips.com. About the moderator: Phil Machi is an independent animator, author, podcast host, and filmmaker living in Austin, Texas. His long-running comic strip, Retail Sunshine, details the woes of working in a big-box store and is currently being adapted into a hand-drawn animated short. By purchasing a book from BookPeople, you are not only supporting a local, independent business – you’re showing publishers that they should continue sending authors to BookPeople. Thank you for supporting Joe Rothenberg, Phil Machi, and your local independent bookstore!
