About

Join us at Ruff Start Rescue for a Rangers & Volunteer Event on August 20th, 2026! Ruff Start Rangers, a program within the Education Department, aims to educate youth through service and activities in hopes the future of animal welfare sees fewer homeless pets and more responsible pet owners. All themes in this series come from this program. Physical Plant is an educational program that explores how animal organizations create and care for the spaces they use to help animals every day. Each group or organization has its own goals and mission, which means they need special buildings, rooms, and equipment to safely care for animals and support their work. For example, Ruff Start Rescue performs medical procedures for animals as part of our mission, so we need a facility with safe and comfortable spaces for animals while they wait for procedures and recover afterward. Participants will learn about the different parts of an animal rescue facility, why cleanliness and organization are important, and how creating safe, comfortable environments helps animals feel secure and cared for. Just like pets need a cozy and well-maintained home, animal organizations must also take good care of the spaces and animals inside them! The event will start at 5:30 pm and is estimated to last ~90 minutes; we will do a brief presentation about the topic then do a fun themed activity together! When signing up, please include parents and kids in the total admission number so we have an idea of how many will be in attendance.
