For decades, girls were told the mat wasn’t meant for them, yet they showed up anyway. They trained in silence, wrestled with boys, and carved out space in a sport that never intended to hold it for them. The rise of women's wrestling is a testament to resilience and grit. In the early 1990s, female athletes began forming grassroots teams and demanding their place at the table. By 2004, women’s freestyle wrestling debuted in the Olympics, marking a global shift.
