Up to 30 people. Weekday afternoons and weekend evenings. We handle the clay, you handle the snacks and wine. Architect-designed, owner-built. Hickory Clay was designed by Ashley Hinton, a working architect, and built alongside her co-owner Daniel Karvasales. We hauled 10,000 pounds of debris out of a 1920s Mission District warehouse and built the pottery studio we wanted to throw in — every cubby, worktable, and shelf custom-made for the way clay actually moves through a space. The result: 22 wheels under double-height clerestory windows, a dedicated handbuilding zone with 75+ plaster molds, a 200 sq ft damp room, and four kilns running four times a week.
